Getting there...

Trains & Boats & Planes...Which best suits your needs?...either for viewing trips or for when you have bought that dream home or maison secondaire...We're building links with major carriers and discount houses...

Trains...Rail travel in France looks good but personally we've not yet tried to get to our house in Brittany by train - although we have travelled on both Eurostar and TGV...Brilliant! The French rail network is legendary and getting better all the time. Now it extends to the end of the Brittany peninsula - to Brest on the northern route and to Quimper on the southern route - together these lines link all the major coastal towns to Paris. Check out the possibilities and see the route maps and make a booking on-line - You can travel Eurostar from Waterloo or Ashford and then change at Paris Brittany Bound...it looks impressive!

Boats...Ferries, always a pleasure but - sometimes regarded as a necessary evil - and, until recently often costing more than you'd like to pay. With very regular travellers, the glitter sometimes wears off if you are backwards and forwards several times a year
Important - Eastern Channel... Some of our clients have taken the Channel Tunnel or Ferries from Dover to Calais and then driven to view in Brittany. OK if you are going for a week or more but certainly not if you are just planning a short trip. It's a 6 hour drive from Calais to central Brittany!

But...'there is light at the end of the tunnel for you, us and our agents!
Because of the demise of P&O's Portsmouth Le Havre route two developments have led to better access at better prices than ever before. to the Northwest coast of France Now Normandy access is opened up dramatcally by Trans Manche who are adding two new ships this year and who operate Newhaven to Dieppe. and LD Lines who have adopted the old P&O Portsmouth Le Havre route. Even with 20 extra cabins (and boy do they need them) being added to the ship for next year they will still provide a lower cost alternative to Brittany Ferries, As well as Portsmouth Caen...

The further west along the coast (both sides) then the more relevant Brittany becomes and so Brittany Ferries also cover routes...also Portsmouth St- Malo and Plymouth - Roscoff.
Condor Ferries also offer both ships Poole - St Malo, Weymouth - St Malo,

Planes...Once again it depends on how finished your French house is and where in the UK you may have a house if you are retaining a UK property. The low cost airlines are establishing good links from a growing number of UK airports...to Dinard (Ryanair) Rennes or Brest (Fly-be) or...Nantes (BA).

Note:- As from End July 2006 SkySouth at Shoreham (Brighton City) Airport can whisk you to join one of our agents at Le Havre... Check out the service at...

The travel aspect of your journeys to and from Normandy depends, of course, on where you find the house you are looking for...or more particularly - where you decide to house hunt because of the travel links that are already in place - building your property choice on the proximity to a port, airport or both.. There's something more to consider too...and that is what state the house you choose to buy is in...
Finished property...what I call "walk in turn the kettle on"! In cases like that you are free to use You won't have to tote tools or building materials backwards and forwards.
Or, if your purchase is a ruin or project - meaning that for a good while at least you may need to transport tools, equipment, materials, pieces of furniture etc., etc., not only backwards and forwards to the UK but also those runs to and from to Mr Bricolage, Castorama or Leroy Merlin where (if you're anything like us) you'll spend many a happy hour glazing over in front of the plumbing or timber section - wondering at the prices of wood or the dozens of different sizes of pipework and fittings and whether.it's best bought in France or the UK In this case you're definitely a Ferry Passenger...

Bon Voyage
